Massive Crackdown: Over 1,000 Illegal Bangladeshi Nationals Detained in Gujarat
Ahmedabad/Surat, April 26, 2025 — In one of the biggest operations against illegal immigration, the Gujarat Police detained more than 1,000 Bangladeshi nationals residing unlawfully across the state. The pre-dawn raids were conducted simultaneously in Ahmedabad and Surat cities.
According to officials, the coordinated operation involved the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, Special Operations Group (SOG), Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), and local police forces. The crackdown began at 3:00 AM and focused on areas known for harboring undocumented immigrants.
In Ahmedabad, approximately 890 individuals were detained, while another 134 were held in Surat. Most detainees were reportedly living in India using forged documents, many allegedly obtained from West Bengal. Authorities are currently verifying the authenticity of their records.
Police sources revealed that intelligence inputs had suggested possible criminal activities among some of the detained individuals, including suspected links to extremist groups. Detailed investigations are underway to identify any security threats.
Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Mr. Harsh Sanghavi, addressed the media, stating,
“This is the largest operation Gujarat Police has conducted against illegal immigrants. We are giving a final warning: those who are residing illegally should surrender within two days or face strict action.”
Officials confirmed that once legal procedures are completed, the detained individuals will be deported back to Bangladesh in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs.
This operation forms part of a larger national strategy to tighten internal security and regulate undocumented migration. Similar raids have recently been conducted in other states like Tripura and Telangana.
The police emphasized that strict measures will continue to prevent illegal entries and safeguard national security.
